Mr. Nekeno Demeritte, coach of all 3 elementary teams, reported on the results of the tournament. “In the mini division, Temple Christian defeated St. Francis 8-4. Brock Glinton was the MVP. As a team, all around, the whole team itself did an exceptional job. In terms of the girls that were actually on the mini team, they did most of the defensive work with Terrell McKoy - she was big in the paint, getting rebounds, put backs, she did an excellent job along with Azaria Marshall who was like a defensive stopper.” Coach Demeritte noted that the mini division is a developmental division for Under - 9s. “This was the first year that we hosted a mini division, and we were the first team to win the mini division.”

“In the primary girls championship, our girls played Freedom Academy, and won 18-3. Looking at the way our girls played, I think they are the most dominant team in the primary division this year. At our tournament, the 3 points scored by Freedom were the first points scored on our girls this season. The first game they played they won 20-0 over Xavier’s College, and the second game played was 10-0 over St. Francis Joseph, and then they ended up playing the championship where they won 18-3, which was really an exceptional job. Claire Ferguson was the MVP, she scored 12 of the 18 points. We have a team of 7 girls, and any line up that we put on the court could have done the job. The girls look really good this year.

The winners of the primary boys division was Teleos Christian Academy. They played St. Francis Joseph boys. Temple Christian boys placed third. That championship game was also a good game from start to finish. The final score was 18-14.”

This year’s tournament I think was a real success with us introducing the mini division. This year we saw about 10 boys teams, 5 girls teams that were in the tournament. I just want to thank the teams that supported the school and supported the tournament. It was a really good tournament this year.”
We salute everyone who helped to make this tournament a success, and wish to especially thank the players, parents, Coach Demeritte and the administration of the elementary school for organizing and hosting such a successful event. Go Suns!
