Kageon Neilly is the sixth grade student who has been chosen to represent Temple Christian School at the 2016 Primary School Student of the Year Awards. As the school’s Head Boy, he is currently ranked first out of seventy students in the level, and stands out as a leader amongst his peers. Other than being academically astute, Kageon is also involved in many extra-curricular activities, which include Spanish, Track, Science and Boy’s Clubs. He is also a part of a church band, a Library Cadet, and the AWANA church group.
We took the time to chat with Kageon, and ask him about his thoughts on the competition.
In your opinion, what it takes to be nominated by the school for Primary School Student of the Year?
“I think it takes a lot of hard work and I think it takes a lot of commitment.”
What would you say to other students who might like to be the nominee for primary school student of the year?
“I would say they would have to work hard, and they would have to be recognized in their school.”
Are you involved in a lot of activities? Tell me about some of the activities that you’re involved in and why you’re involved in some of them.
“I’m involved in the school’s master club. I’m in Extreme Athletics track club. I’m in the Bahamas Library Cadets. I was a former member of Freedom Farm’s Baseball Club. I was also a former member of the school’s Spanish Club. I’m presently a member of the Bahamas National Trust’s Discovery Club.”
What kind of things do you like to do or what are some of your hobbies?
“I would like to do basketball and maybe swim.”
Who are some of the people that have helped you to get this far in terms of accomplishing some of the things you’re achieved in life?
“My mother…she pushes me academically and extra-curricularly.”
What are some of your goals for life?
“One of my goals is to start a cancer research center in the Bahamas.”
Where does that dream come from?
“I am interested in a career in medicine.”
What has the year been like for you so far being head boy?
"It's been good"
What do you think about Temple Christian School?
“I think it’s a great school.”
Do you have a relationship with the Lord?
“Yes. I became a Christian about a year ago at church.”
How does your Christianity affect your life?
“It helps me to get good grades. I get to know God, and He helps me as I go throughout my day as I face challenges in my life.”
